Joel Heflin

Joel Heflin is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and editor. His work explores themes of scientific method, spacial relationship, and ethical boundaries within space and consciousness. He is also a member of Finishing School, an art, design, and technology collective. Their work investigates the many intersections of play, praxis, and activism.

Joel Heflin, The Same Ratio (2003), 14 x 28" Mixed Media on Paper.

 

This body of work continued to pursue many relevant themes from the Remains to be Seen series of paintings. The collage elements are placed to give priority to the negative space of the paper. The use of book spines, typewriter keys, rulers, and geometric diagrams reevaluate pre-modern taxonomies in nature and the postmodern concern of ‘experience’ either in text or nature itself.
