Remains To Be Seen

Joel Heflin, Objects Before Dawn, 1997, 9 x 14" Oil on Canvas.

This substantial body of work recasts the Cubist deconstruction of the spatial plane using models taken from molecular biology, physics, and astronomy. The simultaneous representation of micro/macro space evaluates various motifs in landscape painting, particularly the sublime. The conclusion of this series arrived at the dualism of space and the grid, and the inability to move beyond the grid as a final absolute spiritual value in ‘traditional’ landscape painting.
